Traditionally disposed of in landfill sites, this solution is no longer an option for sewer cleaning waste (see non ultimate waste having a high OM and water content) and, therefore, it has to be washed and drained before, where feasible, being disposed of in landfill sites or, even better, recycled.

Its re-use as backfill material, subgrade base etc. assumes that this waste can be treated like «V» clinker while complying with the values quoted in table 4 (taken from the circular of the 9th May 1994) or like grit containing organic matter, see category F1 in the NF P 11-300 standard. In both cases, the requirement is for a product comprising less than 5% of OM, few solubles and heavy metals.
