seawater evaporators

Reading time:

Distillation continues to compete with seawater reverse osmosis (see section main membrane applications), but has lost the brackish water market. However, distillation is also used in a number of industrial processes and a range of concentration levels. More recently, environmental constraints force to save good quality water resources as much as possible and have, therefore, encouraged to use systems with high level of recirculation, even zero liquid discharge systems, reintroducing these techniques into the water treatment range. In effect, the most soluble salts (e.g. NaCℓ, SO4Na2…) can only be eliminated as solid crystals (see section evaporator-crystalliser) by using evaporation combined with a crystalliser.
