settling tanks

Reading time:

The elements that determine separation rates for the various types of physicalchemical floc settling tanks are given in sedimentation.

Additionally, secondary settling tanks (the «clarifiers» as part of an activated sludge system) present special limitations generated by problems specific to activated sludge (described in suspended growth (activated sludge) process), justifying the inclusion of the description of the relevant degremont® range in a special sub-chapter (secondary settling tanks). The same applies to settling tanks acting as sludge thickeners and described under sludge thickening.

The sludge removal mechanisms provide a brief description of sludge removal mechanisms common to most settling tanks.
