secondary corrosion parameters

Reading time:

We have already seen that carbonate equilibrium and oxygen content are the two main factors that determine corrosion conditions. Other factors play a role in the corrosion process because they have an impact on the form of the corrosion and on the rate at which the corrosion develops. These factors are: the presence of dissolved salts (mainly chlorides) and, in this context, seawater corrosivity will be examined in this section together with temperature, the water’s physical cleanliness and the presence of micro-organisms.
