domains of utilisation

Reading time:

Chlorine is a toxic gas. In the event of any leaks, chlorine gas, approximately 2.5 times denser than air, will accumulate at floor level. Accordingly, liquid chlorine facilities are subject to declaration or permits depending on the amount of product stored and, therefore, are required to comply with rules imposed on classified installations. In any case, please refer to the regulations for the country concerned; these regulations may demand the installation of a leak detector and neutralisation system (see chlorine).

Sodium hypochlorite (bleach) is used particularly when chlorine gas cannot be used for safety reasons.

Calcium hypochlorite has a very high active chlorine content and is mainly used in countries that are unable to procure chlorine gas or sodium hypochlorite in solution (transportation costs).
